Travel the easy way to Sunny Corner and Jenolan East

Saturday, 6 March 2010

We have arranged an easy transport option to get to the MTBO events at Sunny Corner and Jenolan East.  Travel on a minibus to the events, with your bike in a custom-built trailer.
Departs Sydney (North Sydney and Sydney Airport) around 9am Saturday; returns around 5.30pm Sunday.
Cost $79 per person, including bike.
If we get a good response to this, it may be an option for other events in the future.

Entries open for SS1/2 and NOL 1

Tuesday, 23 February 2010

Entries now open online for the 2010 Cranks Bikes NSW MTBO SuperSeries 1 and 2 at Sunny Corner and Jenolan East on 20/21 March.  These events also comprise Round 1 of the 2010 National MTBO Series, and the 2010 National MTBO Selection Trials.

Remember, if you are interested in being considered for national selection, you MUST advise the selectors at least one week prior to the events.

If you are from NSW, please tell everybody you know to register now - we're having some problems with our newsletter mailing list at present.

We are looking for volunteers to assist on the weekend with:

  • Event Centre setup / packup
  • Starts
  • Finishes
  • Control collection

Please email David West to get your name on the list to help run this event - and if you know somebody who isn't planning to ride who'd like to help out, that would be great!

BOSS 4 - "Another Day on The Farm"

Tuesday, 23 February 2010

The fourth events of the highly popular Bike Orienteering Summer Series (BOSS) was held at "The Farm" last Sunday.  This small map was well utilised by course setters Andrew and Nicole Haigh with numerous controls - creating a challenging, fun sprint course feel on the 75 minute score course design.  Thank you!

And don't forget, if you want to get some last minute MTBO practice in before the start of the SuperSeries season (and the first of the National Series events), the final BOSS #5 is on in 2 weeks at Stanford Merthyr.

From course setter Andrew Haigh......

And another mud free BOSS event. The area dried out really well after all the rain we had a couple of weeks ago.

David Simpfendorfer cleared the course with 6 minutes to spare easily winning the mens category, Damian Welbourne was the only other competitor to clear the course but arriving back 7 seconds late cost him a point. Mel Simpson won the female category by 4 points over Mary Fein. That gives them two wins each heading in to the final event.

The farm area is a little over 1 km Square but proved to be just about big enough to give even the faster competitors plenty to think about. 39 controls Scattered throughout the area made for a multitude of route choices. Unfortunately large mine subsidence cracks appeared south East of control 2F early on the Saturday morning. They where monitored Saturday and Sunday by mine representatives. Fortunately they didn't worsen over night and I was able to danger flag the area and provide a bypass route early on the Sunday.

Thanks to Alan McCarthy the friendly land owner who not only lets us use his property, but spent a good portion of Saturday out on the course lopping latana and mowing grass for us. This is first time that I have carried secateurs during course setting, many of todays tracks where unrideable a couple of weeks back.

Thanks to everybody who came - Many people commented on how much they enjoyed it and that makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks to Greg Bacon, Greg Scott, Paul Griffith, Emily Harper & Brock Smith for Control Collection.

Thanks to Geoff Peel and Dennis Lyons for help on the Start/Finish Desk. and of course to Mick Kavur for being there at 6.30am ready and willing to help - Much appreciated today as I was dealing with mine subsidence and Nicole would have been setting up alone.

Oh, I had better thank Nicole too as always she deserves half the credit. Andrew

Please note:: BOSS #5 Date Change (Newcastle summer series)

Friday, 5 February 2010

Bike Orienteering Summer Series event 5 (BOSS5) has had a date change. Please alter your calendar as this event has been brought forward to SUNDAY the 7th March, 2010.

The location, Stanford Merthyr (a new map near Kurri Kurri), and all other details remain the same.

It was changed to better suit Newcastle's 2010 event calendar and to fit more appropriately with the MTBO Super Series that commences later that month.
NOTE: BOSS4 remains at it's original date

We hope this has not inconvenienced anybody.
