Sprinting on the singletrack at Wingello
Wednesday, 22 September 2010
One perfect day for MTBO. Sublime singletrack. A sprint course to test your lungs and your legs and your head. A map that looked like a maze with controls and lines all over the place. And an uphill sprint to the finish along the airstrip (almost like the TdF!).
The 1:7500 scale was a sharp contrast for those who'd ridden Wingello previously at 1:20000 or greater. It meant that I could unleash my longheld desire to put a series of controls in the gravel pits. And so I did. On top of mounds, tucked away on singletrack, just over the top of the embankments.
On course 1, the top three riders were separated by less than a minute. Marcel van Schie managed to take out the win - all that training at the Australian SingleSpeed Championships the previous weekend must have done him some good!
On course 2, Mary Fien took out the Open Women category from Carolyn Jackson (Vic), and Rob Prentice was too fast for Brett Vallance.
Peter Cusworth (Vic) signalled that he was in ominous form with his winning time on course 3.
