Terrain:
Spur gully terrain
with some gold mining. Track network complex in some areas with
generally fast riding on a mixture of single and forest tracks. Course setter notes: Riders
need to note that there are parts of their course where they may
choose the option to ride across farm paddocks. These areas of the
map are shown as bright yellow. All other farm paddocks are out of bounds.
There are fence crossing points marked on the map and these will be
marked with pink tape where the gate is locked or shut. Facilities: There will be a coffee van at the event
Directions:
From Maryborough
take the Pyrenees Hwy (B180) towards Newstead and Castlemaine. 7.5 km
after Carisbrook, turn right onto Cotswold Rd (Smeaton). After 4.1 k,
turn left onto Rodborough Rd. After 0.7 km turn right onto Smeaton Rd
and continue to Campbelltown (11km). Turn left onto Creswick-Newstead Rd
(C283). Look for O’Signs after approx. another 2 km turn right onto the
Lauder Mine track and continue to (2.5 km) to the assembly area Distance from Maryborough ~ 40 km. Allow 35 minutes travel time. From Castlemaine CBD follow the
Midland Highway south for 1.5km, then turn west towards Newstead and
Maryborough on the A180. One km after passing through Newstead cross
the Loddon river. Turn immediately left towards Guildford then turn
right towards Creswick on the C283. 12km from the last turn, pass
the Werona road just before entering the Sandon forest. Start to
look for O signs to the left in the next 2 km. Traffic moves very
fast along this road so take care while turning. If approaching from
Creswick direction take extra care here.
